PRELUDE
“Prelude” is a statement about beginnings. Ashing, in his first solo exhibition, pays tribute to his artistic inspirations. The wide range of subjects and themes find a peaceful cadence across this body of work. The poetic use of realism as the artist’s primary visual language harkens back to the art of renaissance era and centuries-old Dutch masters. Oil is the primary medium of choice used by Ashing throughout the show.
By definition, “Prelude” refers to an action or event that introduces something greater. The artist’s future is the ray of light on the horizon. A light that is reflected within this body of work. It is a celebration of the pursuit of identity. And as such the artist allows himself the freedom to lean into a feeling of unperturbed exploration through figures, objects, wildlife and landscapes.
